I read that one actually. It's a pocket titled The New Kindaichi Files, translated by Yuriko Tamaki by Kodansha English Library. It's probably out of print now, but I remember having seen it a couple of times in Japan (it's meant for Japanese student of the English language and includes a wordlist at the end explaining some of the more difficult English expressions).Ho-Linghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04673330638260132388noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8031063966272508587.post-28763415448297307112012-01-21T12:21:30.132+01:002012-01-21T12:21:30.132+01:00I've actually been playing with the thought of...I've actually been playing with the thought of rereading (and reviewing) Kindaichi Shounen these last few days, as I won't be getting new material for some time. The length of the series is kinda putting me off though, so I am now thinking of either watching the first live action series of Kindaichi Shounen or doing Detective Academy Q. I am leaning towards the latter.

I did start in a little book called Young Kindaichi's Deduction Mistakes, so I might tie in some more overall Kindaichi Shounen critism in an eventual review of that.Ho-Linghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04673330638260132388noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8031063966272508587.post-63932807933567517492012-01-21T12:20:26.285+01:002012-01-21T12:20:26.285+01:00Yeah, in the more recent volumes he's been usi...Yeah, in the more recent volumes he's been using the name again. It's probably like you say. I'll have to go through all the volumes to really pinpoint the moment he started using the name again though.

Of course, even during the time they didn't explicitly mention Kindaichi Kousuke, everybody knew who the grandfather of Kindaichi was ^_~Ho-Linghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04673330638260132388noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8031063966272508587.post-79402988740733014862012-01-21T12:07:22.894+01:002012-01-21T12:07:22.894+01:00I've only read a few of the more recent Kindai...I've only read a few of the more recent Kindaichi manga (starting with the last Opera House one); but I'm pretty sure that in some of them characters explicitly say that he's the grandson of Kindaichi Kousuke. Perhaps the manga publishers came to some arrangement with the Yokomizo estate? - Nigel HolmesAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8031063966272508587.post-89770974067799498352012-01-21T11:52:41.804+01:002012-01-21T11:52:41.804+01:00I have to say, as one of Kindaichi's detractor...I have to say, as one of Kindaichi's detractors, that this review actually managed to pique my interest in the other two stories. However, you really should address its weaknesses one of these days. I can't remember you ever put up a serious defense for the blatant plagiarism in the earlier volumes and the annoying, chewed-out formula that made a lot of the stories so terribly predictable.TomCathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03415176301265218101noreply@blogger.com
