The first two novels can be read on their own, but 3-5 form one continuing storyline (with the set-up in one volume and the solution in another), so those volumes are best read in one go though (so that might perhaps be longer than you'd like).Ho-Linghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04673330638260132388noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8031063966272508587.post-59586190441518784692019-08-25T19:10:27.879+02:002019-08-25T19:10:27.879+02:00Thanks! I'm sure I'll enjoy them.
Last question: this Kyoko fan was wondering how hard the Japanese is in Danganronpa Kirigiri. I'm aware it doesn't have furigana, but I figured it might be easier to read than the average mystery, given that the franchise it's based on is aimed at a younger audience (teenagers) than the average mystery (presumably adults). I think I'll attempt it a little before or after Suspect X
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8031063966272508587.post-51343994856812521022019-08-25T09:29:38.220+02:002019-08-25T09:29:38.220+02:00Higashigawa Tokuya's 謎解きはディナーのあとで is quite eas...Higashigawa Tokuya's 謎解きはディナーのあとで is quite easy, and hilarious to read. They're short stories too, so they are easier to go through too. Can't find my own books right now to check, but while I don't think all kanji have furigana, I think it's fairly generous and in any case, it's again a very dialogue-focused mystery, so easier to read in general.

Oh, and then there's the 金田一くんの冒険 series (a Kindaichi Shounen spin-off), which was released in the same Kadokawa Tsubasa Bunko label as the two Ace Attorney books by Mie (same children's label, so of course furigana).Ho-Linghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04673330638260132388noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8031063966272508587.post-57252652601796330342019-08-24T20:32:20.114+02:002019-08-24T20:32:20.114+02:00Gaaah I finally finished it today. What a fun read...Gaaah I finally finished it today. What a fun read! Thanks for covering it. It's my first book in Japanese as well, and it took me 2 months with me looking up every third word. I really picked up momentum in the court scenes, where they keep reusing the same words. I read the first 100 pages in a little under 2 months, and the other 100 in a little over a week. Really nice when you feel like you improved your JPN "reading stamina"!

Besides Turnabout Airport and Suspect X (which I already have), are there other mysteries with easy Japanese that you can recommend, preferably with furigana? It doesn't have to be a great mystery, I'm just looking for more practice mysteries that are ideally not slogs to read and have furiganaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8031063966272508587.post-34264530128493268092018-03-28T09:05:55.970+02:002018-03-28T09:05:55.970+02:00Yes, all the kanji have furigana, and most of the ...Yes, all the kanji have furigana, and most of the narrative is done through conversation, so the novel's really well suited to learn reading longer Japanese texts! I'm a huge fan of Ace Attorney, I figured this might be worth a buy to get my motivation up!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8031063966272508587.post-11412418910786793422016-07-17T09:38:11.063+02:002016-07-17T09:38:11.063+02:00Congratulations with finishing your first Japanese...Congratulations with finishing your first Japanese book! It's really easy to read, so it's definitely very well-suited as a first challenge (in case other people are also considering it).

It's actually very impressive how Takase managed to write a normal Ace Attorney story with much simpler prose than the games use.Ho-Linghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04673330638260132388noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8031063966272508587.post-55145146665031183752016-07-16T16:26:29.760+02:002016-07-16T16:26:29.760+02:00Agreed. Had it not been Gyakuten Saiban I may not have made it through. Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00897000004062556256noreply@blogger.com
